A real treasure was recently entrusted to Lyon’s Municipal Archives: 263 notebooks written during World War I by Barthélémy Mermet, a man in love with veracity and anxious to leave his precious testimony to the following generations.

More than 30000 pages written four hours a day, during one thousand six hundred and fifty-two days, which shed a new light on these dark years, describing everyday life behind the front line, and make it possible to understand the multiple consequences of the conflict on the years to come in France.
